Posted by Andrew Harmon Johan and Kundigunda seem to be as far back as anyone can get. I am from this line, which ended up in Indiana. George was one of seven Herrmann brothers who emigrated to the New World in the first quarter of the eighteenth century. Departing from Wurtemburg late in the year 1725, George set sail upon the ship "Charlotte". The Charlotte stopped for supplies on the Isle of Man in early January, 1726; and arrived In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania late in the same month. Records show that George and several of his brothers paid quit rents in Philadelphia Co. before 1734. In 1736 George, Heinrich Adam, and Valentine Herrmann moved to Strausburg Va., and settled on the New River. The Herrmanns were among the first settlers west of the Allegheny Mountains. The Herrmanns were Moravian Christians, and the first Moravian Missionary Church services in Virginia were held in Heinrich Herrmann's house. George had several children. His son Cutliff moved from Randolf County into the valley of Cove Creek, (Watauga Co.) North Carolina in 1791. There he purchased 522 acres of land on August 6, from James Gwyn. Cutliff and Susan had 10 children. I have more on this, which I'll try to post soon. I just found this site! Best regards, Andrew

Hi Tammy,
1755 heralded the outbreak of the French and Indian War,Heinrich's home allegedly being the first to be raided by Indians. According to Capt. Preston's reports, Valentine was killed by Indians in March 1756 (some family records place the date as late as 1757). George, Heinrich, and their families moved to Rowan Co. (now Randolf Co.) North Carolina, settling on Abbott's Creek.
