Hi Carl,
Good question!
The new album is mostly new songs, however, at the behest of a producer friend of ours, Ken Roberts, we recorded Incense and Peppermints as a 50 year anniversary. Not only that, but he wanted all the original members to play and sing on it.This was in 2017 so we got Ed King and Gregory Munford to be a part of it. Lee Freeman had already passed away in 2010. Anyway, it's pretty much an exact replica of the original record.
Also on the record is our version of Daytripper which is an instrumental. We also just finished another Beatle song as an instrumental, Within You and Without You...that one is HowieAnderson, Steve Bartek and I with our friend Bruce Hubbard on drums and synth. Bruce played with us in the 80's and 90's. I'm not sure how we're going to do this but we have a couple of "bonus tracks" that are SAC with guest artists. Another is Crawfish with Oingo Boingo Former Members' Brendan McCreary singing lead. We had recorded the song for a charity called Victoria's Voice and all the songs were Elvis songs. It's fully SAC playing and singing harmonies but the band hasn't warmed up to the idea of including it on the album proper.
There's also another instrumental with Bruce, Steve and I and that's Pipeline, which we do in 7/4.
We have a new original instrumental called Persian Skies that we've been doing live with our friend and legendary poet Stephen Kalinich reciting his masterpiece, Galactic Symphony over it. So we recorded with Stephen but I think the track would be on the album as an instrumental with the bonus track link. Sounds like a mess, right? Therein lies the problem. We want the album to have some sort of theme...yes, the guests are a theme...including Ed and Greg, but the band members all have different concepts in their minds as to what constitutes a theme.
All that being said, we do have several new songs;
Monsters
I'm Not The One
Blow your Mind
Live Water
Where Are We Going/White Light
Persian Skies
Daytripper
These are tracks that we all are in agreement on as far as the album proper. Within You Without You is borderline but I think it's a must.
Aren't you sorry you asked? lol
Are all the songs on the new album ne, original songs or are there a few covers or reinterpretations of older songs?
