We do get asked that often.
It started with the record company telling the band to change their name which at the time was Thee Sixpence. ( there were several bands with similar names)
Mark Weitz wanted to use Strawberry in the name, partly because of Strawberry Fields and partly because it sounded psychedelic.
So, the band sat around in Marks bedroom which was adjacent to the rehearsal room and tossed about names to go with strawberry when Mark's Big Ben Alarm Clock started to make a swishy noise as the second hand passed over a certain area. Voila!
The band all agreed...that's it! So they called the record company and the rest is history.
I was wondering how the name "Strawberry Alarm Clock" came about.
