All's well with us. Next show is at The Whisky Dec. 16th.
The band is still intact albeit hampered by logistical and geographic constraints.
We had our own self destructive person to deal with....Lee Freeman. Sometimes I thought his credo was not unlike Harry's.
When I was in high school my band mates and I thought you had to be "experienced" beyond the natural state of our minds.
We looked to geniuses like Ray Charles and Miles Davis and Charlie Parker and the like and thought for sure cannibas and possibly harder drugs were the way to enlightenment. Alcohol wasn't a consideration. What we found out was that pot gave us creative bursts that if being recorded could be really special but if not they were immediately forgotten....lost forever. We came to the realization that we had to create and rehearse without the presence of mind altering substances and then lay it down to tape. Once it was complete we could self medicate and listen back with renewed interest. I figure there are underlying circumstances that led Lee and Harry to their eventual demise. Of course there's also the ever-present possibility of overdosing. At some point you have to grow up. Some can keep it at bay. Not overindulging. But others don't have that restraint. I'd like to think there's a happy medium to all things but there's really not. You're altering your mind. Like they say, if you feel buzzed, you are. And you shouldn't drive or operate heavy machinery. Creative genius is attainable simply by practicing your craft over and over until you tap into the so called stream of conscientiousness. Then all you have to do is recognize it and act on it.
TMI and I'm sober! LOL
Hey guys!Long time no contact.Hope all is well with career and health.I was watching a documentary about the great artist Harry Nilsson where he said an artist owes it to himself and his fans to be over indulgent in personal habits when explaining his heavy alcohol and drug intakes.Do you agree or was Harry merely justifying his self destructive behaviors?
