I don't blame Randy at all. To me, GMS was the worst "Hair" song. Plus, back then I was soooooo sick of Oliver's version. Yuck.
On a better note: It's been over eleven years, but the Cavestomp show was a blast. "Birdman" and "Heart Full of Rain". Yes !!!!!!!
Nice detective work Steve G.
We did rehearse Good Morning Starshine a couple of years ago with Randy singing lead. He hated the lyrics and didn't want to perform it live. It was the glibby glop nubie that got to him....LOL
So we never played it live.
We did however, play the two songs Paul Marshall wrote for the movie Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, "I'm Coming Home" and Girl from the City", at Roger Ebert's Ninth Overlooked Film Festival in April 2007.
Barefoot In Baltimore had peaked at # 67 after four weeks on the Billboard Top 100 singles chart, the week ending September 21, 1968. After an almost eight months break the SAC came roaring back to the charts with Good Morning Starshine.
As it turned out, Olivers version of GMS also hit the chart the same week. The race to the top was on.
Heres how it went down, week by week:
Weekly Top 100 chart ending:
5/24/69
#87
..
..(Oliver at #83)
5/31/69
..#87
..(Oliver at #57)
6/7/69
SAC---off the chart
...(Oliver at #30)
So, that was it. The SACs last placing on the Billboard charts. For a week though, it was pretty darn close, neck and neck.
George
....Obviously, we know that you and Randy were not involved in this lineup of the SAC. I was wondering. After the current lineup was fully together again with Mark rejoining did you guys ever play any songs from the GMS album? Ive only seen you once when you played Cavestomp in 2007 and you didnt.
