It's, to me, closer than that Marvin Gaye - Pharrell Williams case that PW lost.
Zeppelin also has a history of plagerizing. Dazed and Confused was a total rip from Jake Holmes.
I think it's a bit of a stretch in the Taurus case....but they did tour together...just like Jake Holmes toured with the Yarbirds.
I was on tour with Neil Young in 1967 and 1968 and he liked jamming with me on my song Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow. Then a couple years later he came out with Down By The River. It's very similar in the verses...basically the same. My friends at the time said I should sue. Not my style. I took it as flattery
What's your take on the hold "Taurus" by Spirit VS "Stairway to Heaven" plagiarism suit?At first,I though for sure Page and Plant had indeed and very blatantly lifted the opening riff of their most famous tune from Taurus' marvelous "Taurus' instrumental. Then I heard a few pro songsmiths say that the basic structure for the two tunes' shared intro had been used many times for many different popular and even standard melodies and was a preogression considered more or less fare game for any writer's employ. Is this bit indeed public domain for any artist?
