Thanks David....
The Rock hall operates in a most peculiar fashion.
Basically it's a screwball arrangement at best.
I guess it's more of a popularity contest than anything else.
That being said, I do watch the ceremonies and performances and I wince at the editing. But I'm sometimes amazed as well.
I can think of a bunch of ways to make it a better show. I can also think of a better way to include and induct folks.
I don't understand the actual voting body of some 700 or 800 people deciding who gets in, as well as the certain ones voted in buy a popular public vote.
Both are flawed.
Of course there are artists who's influence and importance in popular music is undeniable. They should all just be inducted automatically.
We all know who THEY are. There doesn't need to be a vote.
Then you can separate the rest into sub categories. Not genres, just levels of importance and impact.
It takes too long for them to include many of the obvious greats. They end up doing posthumously.
They should also have repeat performances of people already in the hall. (if they're still around)
Anyway, they are definitely missing the point of music and culture.
SAC has certainly had an effect on many artists over the years. I don't hold us on some sort of pedestal or think we should be held in high esteem. I just know first hand that we have made a lasting impression on many, many people.
