Re: Can't count - here's 11!
I appreciate Mr. Nichols inclusion of the Left Banke and Lemon Pipers.Particularly the former, who may not always have succeeded highly in their art rock efforts, but one can sense from the general tone of at least most of the recordings I heard on a compilation that they they indee take their artistic endeavors quite seriously. The Lemon Pipers were sold somewhat short to the public,as effectively exhibited by a couple of really good psych-rock jams on the "Tambourine" disc. The "sold short" part comes in because I'm quite sure a legitimate psych-jamband such as this probably never really wanted to to bubblegum bits such as the title tune "Blueberry Blue" or "Rice Is Nice",just as the Strawberry Alarm Clock told me how vehemently they opposed being forced to record what they felt as the equally insipid "Good Morning Starshine".Ii don't have my own list at the moment, but some of the aforementioned titles certainly would make the cut, particularly Floyd's freshman effort "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn".This one,my dear mind expanding friends, should be on the list for anyone who's heard it.I still have yet to hear COuntry JOe's "Electic Music",but so far I haven't heard anything about it but stratospherically high praise.......... --Previous Message-- : Strawberry Alarm Clock - Incense & : Peppermints : Electric Prunes - Underground : Ball – Iron Butterfly : Doors – The Doors : Doors – Strange Days : SRC – Milestones : Lemon Pipers – Green Tambourine : Love – Forever Changes : Country Joe – Electric Music For Mind And : Body : Left Banke – Walk Away Renee/ Pretty : Ballerina : *Fairport Convention - Liege & Lief : : *My only UK favourite (See LINK)– but still : going strong! : : :
