Ken Forssi was one of my favorite bass players...his brother Charles Forssi used to post here quite often.
The SAC opened for LOVE at the Hullaballoo in Hollywood back in 1967...before our first album came out. Also on that bill was the band I had come from before SAC. At this show they were called The Public Bubble. It was first called Waterfyrd Traene....and post SAC was called Buffington Rhodes. Anyway, Steve Bartek who wrote many SAC songs with me and played flute on the first SAC LP had taken over my spot on bass and also played flute. When Arthur Lee heard Steve rip on flute he asked him to come up and jam with LOVE on stage. He did and it was one of Steve's all time highs!
Buffington Rhodes also opened for LOVE in late 1968 at the Shrine Exposition Hall after Randy Seol and I quit SAC and rejoined our high school buddies...Steve moved over to 2nd lead and of course flute. That was a great show. Also on the bill were Procal Harum and Chicago!
Buffington Rhodes was named after our manager, Stephanie Buffington. She was Arthur Lee's girlfriend and the muse for his song Stephanie Knows Who!
We hadn't had contact any with Arthur until the late 1980's when we we're with the same agent. We were booked on a small tour together that included a performance at the Universal Amphitheater with The Seeds and The Music Machine.
But, the coolest was in 1992 when we were slated to appear at The Palomino Club in North Hollywood with LOVE and Arthur called me at home and asked if SAC would back him up on 7 & 7 IS, Little Red Book and Hey Joe!
Obviously I said YES!
Then during our show we were doing a cool medley of Hendrix's Little Wing and Manic Depression Arthur jumps up on stage and started trading versus with our singer, the late Lee Freeman. Too cool for school!
We actually have a rough video of this...but it stops and goes...still it's a treasured moment.
Before the name changed to SAC, Thee Sixpence recorded a few singles...among them was Hey Joe and My Flash on You!

: I was just cyberchatting with Michael Ware
: from LOVE and asked if he had any fond
: memories of other bands' members while doing
: shows with them and his response was that
: the band was rather a social loner among
: most of the others and didn't bond much with
: them. How well did SAC get to know this
: apparently socially elusive outfit?And,of
: course,the biggie..what can you tell me
: about the late great Arthur Lee?If I could
: go back in time the 60's,he's certainly
: among those I would love to have spoken with
: during their heydays,along with
: Lennon,Dylan,and,of course,all the
: wonderfully congenial members of SAC!!
