: This is it! 45 years ago this week “Incense
: and Peppermints” was the top selling 45 on
: Billboard Magazine’s Top 100 charts, for the
: week ending 11/25/67. It knocked out “To Sir
: with Love” which had been Number One for the
: previous five weeks.
:
: Here was the entire Top Ten singles listing
: for that week:
:
: 1-Incense and Peppermints-Strawberry Alarm
: Clock
: 2-To Sir With Love-Lulu
: 3-The Rain,The Park and Other Things-The
: Cowsills
: 4-Soul Man- Sam and Dave
: 5-Daydream Believer-The Monkees
: 6-Please Love Me Forever-Bobby Vinton
: 7-I Say A Little Prayer-Dionne Warwick
: 8-It Must Be Him-Vicki Carr
: 9-I Can See For Miles-The Who
: 10-Expressway To Your Heart-Soul Survivors
:
: Unfortunately, it only lasted for a week.
: On the following week’s chart, ending
: 12/2/67, “Daydream Believer” jumped up to #1
: knocking “Incense” down to #3.
:
: Amazingly, every single artist listed in
: the above top ten is still active today! At
: that time, though, Rock and Roll was no
: longer the “passing fad” but still had not
: developed into the big business it became.
: And acts from ten years before in the
: Fifties, were already considered “oldies
: acts”.
:
: Well, here we are 45 years later. The SAC
: is still going strong, new album and doing
: shows. Who’da thought??
:
: So, George, here goes:
:
: 1. Back then, at the time, did you (or any
: of the guys) ever even dream or fathom the
: possibility that someday way into the future
: the work that you guys did would have left
: an impact and still be remembered? Or was
: it really just a case of being “in the
: moment” and when things ended, that was it,
: it’s done.
:
: 2. And even more remotely, was the idea ever
: considered then that you and everyone from
: “back then” could actually still be playing
: together again, way, way down the road?
:
: 45 years later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
