Recent talks regarding the remains of the west end of the GTW's "Old Main" through Flint got me thinking..what if the GTW's "old Main" was still intact..and was sold to to a local group of entrepreneurs who started up the "Flint Central Railroad"..which runs from North Kersley to Swarts Creek (where the old main rejoins the GTW main). The start up was July 1966 with SC's 7300 & 7301 (exGTW) and NW5# 7400 (exFSUD). Owned rolling stock includes 4 boxcars, 3 reffers, 2 flat cars (for MOW), 1 gondola (MOW), 8 hoppers, and 3 transfer type steel cabooses (bought new). The operations center is the "Corunna Rd yard"..where an 2 bay engine house was built..and a yard office/crew lockers room/dispatcher center was also built. Operations: The entire route is considered yard limits, only signaled areas are at Belsay (Jcn with GTW), North Kersley (Jcn with C&O), and Swarts Creek (called West Flint by FLCN..jnc with GTW). All jobs also work the Corunna yard as well as performing their duties on the line. Job's: 10-Also know as the "AM Job"..works , primarily, east of Corunna yard. Typically goes on duty around 6am. Mon-Fri only 11-Also known as the "Day job"..usually ends up working Corunna yard..then works west to interchange with the GTW..also works GM's "SPO" facility. Daily 12-Also known as the "Night Job"..can be seen working anywhere needed on the line. Mon-Fri 13-Also known as the "Extra job" typicaly used on the weekends. As needed Still working on customers (err..their names back in the late 1960's) The roster is updated in 1973..with 2 RS-2's from BN(exSPS)..the NW5 is sold. Keep checking I hope to update this post daily! Dave C
