I know that I saw a photo somewhere of a Boyne City RR tank car, used in company service.
The M&NE had boxcars, flat cars, cabooses and passenger cars lettered for it (I sell decals for the boxcars in several scales).
I've had some fun in the past using existing decal sets to paint up equipment for modern versions of fallen roads. One of my favorites is shown below (with apologies for the lousy photo quality- I set this up and shot it in a hurry before going to work this morning).
