If there is one thing I've learned on my journey through life its that honesty is always the best policy. If you cannot afford the cater she chose then tell her and discuss alternatives. You don't want to upset her on her wedding day when she finds out you deceived her - and she will find out. Besides, don't you want to be a guest as Mother of the Bride instead of sweating over the food?
