That helps. I try to go at his speed and he'll plunk his rear down if he's had enough. We'll rest and turn around, go home or if I offer him a treat, he'll go right for it like he always did but now I see that it's jes not in him to go more than maybe 10 minutes now. He's not one to complain or show he's in pain so it's a tough read there. It helps to hear from someone else about their experiences with an elderly dog.
He likes going, it's the social thing of sniffing around and I want him to enjoy himself. We have to do it at night since it's hot and he's never gotten over his childhood with someone else who never socialized him and I think he was beaten as well as a street dog for his first three months. Cars, other dogs, etc, make him nervous so nights are our best time.
Thanks so much for all the info about sleep too. He does that a lot and I was worried maybe I wasn't doing enough for him. He's 9 years old now, which is getting up there for a bullmastiff/lab who's had bad hips since I got him at a year old. He doesn't look old and can still get pretty peppy, he jes sleeps a ton. And snores
and isn't as alert as he used to be. I'm okay with that; I'm not eitha.
