Oh hon...this hurts....((((Hope)))).
I know what it's like to have an arthritic, older dog and knowing the pain he's in...poor thing. Has the vet recommended any other treatment...Omega 3 supplements or anything else? Could the heat be getting to him on his walks? Even young dogs can only tolerate so much and your neck of the woods is a steam bath...
Summer tends to bring out the "dog days"...just laying around...conserving energy and staying cool.
It doesn't sound to me like Gully is seriously declining, but I don't live with him. What does your gut say? That's the real deal, hon. If Gully is eating fine and still seems eager for his toys n' treats, I'd just cut down the walks a bit and try some other medical intervention...there has to be something. I get loads of doggy catalogs and joint supplements are everywhere in them...all kinds from glucosamine to Omega 3 and others that apparently help quite a bit.
Can I help you find something for Gully? Let me know, and I'll keep you both in my prayers for smoother days.
Love ya....
