My brother suffered severe head trauma and he had similar memory problems for a time. Huge pieces of his life were missing for awhile - he could remember things that happened a week ago, and things that happened 20 years ago, but in between those two extremes he had these big holes in his memory, where entire years were missing. People he met during those missing years were comepletely unrecognizable to him. Things he did, places he went, all of it was like he was hearing about it for the first time.
But it all came back over time, and he's doing great now.
So, I guess I just wanted to tell you not to worry too much. The human brain is amazingly resilient.
