Her primary doctor diagnosed Alzheimer's based on a series of cognitive tests that he did in his office and from symptoms my mom and my sister described to him. She's going to see a geriatric specialist next week and they'll probably do more testing after that. My sister and I were talking about some things we've been noticing over the past 6-8 months and that's when we put 2 and 2 together and my sister got her to go to the doctor. One incident in particular that worried me was over Thanksgiving when my mom was up here to visit and she couldn't remember who Katie was or why she was living with us. It was as if she was hearing it for the first time. That scared me but I convinced myself it was just an isolated incident. Then when my sister and I were talking we both kept coming up with more and more "isolated incidents" and little things we've noticed lately and we realized it was more than that. Holly and Hope, thanks for the suggestion on the thyroid I will make sure they test for that, and thanks Julie and everyone else for your suggestions too. We'll know more once she gets through all the tests but I think I'm prepared for what the tests are going to show. Both of my mom's parents had Alzheimer's so there is a family history there too. We're looking into an assisted living facility near my sister and that's probably where she'll end up for now.
Thanks for all your support.
Jenny
