Hell, I took five years! hahahahah! It's our body and the only one we got. After cancer, we're more than aware of what it means to us to have it feelin' good and makin' poor choices jes ain't on our list of things ta do. Ugh.
But that lil voice inside us does give us a clue what we need/want, jes takes some hard listenin' to hear it sometimes.
As for the nurse practitioner: She's so damned lucky she ain't livin' in my town (you don't live in Ocean Springs MS do you? Or on the Mississippi Gulf Coast?) cuz if she did, I'd be drivin' over to her place, makin' an appointment and tellin' her to get on her dimpled lil sorry knees and kiss. my. ass.
To take medications prescribed by another doctor and then accuse a patient of drug dependence without proof is heinous. She can suspect all she wants but if you had a prescription for them, she got nothin'. AND to be someone who survived leukemia (which btw, has a betta survival rate than we do these days) and not have learned compassion and empathy is absolutely monstrous. I don't want you for one minute to assume that what she said has anything at all to do with reality. I personally am sick and damned tired of hearing women (women!! Aren't we supposed to be the caring ones??) tearin' other women down again and again like this, especially in the medical field. I would haul her ass in front of the county medical board.
As for NP #2, if you have a list of all the drugs they tried you on plus your reactions to them, their job is to find something that isn't on the list that might work, not guinea pig you on the same meds again. I'd make a list like that up, find another psychiatrist (ask around, see if anyone has some suggestions) and go see them. It's my experience that general practitioners of anything (and least of all NPs or physician assistants either) should be prescribing antidepressants. They've had a whopping six weeks' internship in psychiatry in med school, they don't know squat.
Okay, sorry. Phew. Hope I didn't offend you. This kind of unnecessary and inappropriate care jes trips me out.
