On November 24 at 7 p.m., the Southern Indiana Wind Ensemble will present a concert titled “Winds Around the World.” The program, which will be given in the Bloomington High School North Auditorium, will include a special appearance by renowned trumpet soloist Dominic Spera.
Spera will perform the Suite for Trumpet and Concert Band, which was written for him by another Bloomington legend, Al Cobine. The internationally-themed program will also feature works by Andreas Makris (Aegean Festival Overture), Gustav Holst (Hammersmith: Prelude and Scherzo), Silvestre Revueltas (Sensemayá), and Bernard Rogers (Three Japanese Dances). Music Director Eric Isaacson will conduct.
Founded in 2007, the Southern Indiana Wind Ensemble is a Bloomington-based, professional-level group of wind and percussion players. Its repertoire emphasizes classic and new concert literature for wind ensemble/concert band. Many in the group have played professionally, some have music degrees from IU, and a number teach music in area schools. Others have pursued other professions while keeping up their musical skills.
SIWE looks forward to opening its second concert season with this global musical journey.
Admission is free.
