The 1k number was not mine, but Brothers published number for the machine. If your getting better than that GREAT!
But with a published number from Brother of 1k, vs. published numbers from HP on many Business class machines of 10K.... and similar prices for the cartridge... well you do the math. Even if you squeak a few extra pages out of it, you will have paid for the HP machine in brother cartridge costs before you have to replace the HP cartridge.
My personal suggestion, a low page print HP 4100/5100 machine. Found MANY 4100DTN (that's: D=Duplex, T=multi-tray, N= Networkable) on Ebay just now for under $200.00, sum under $150.
