Not to point out the obvious, but with notaries getting stiffed so much lately, you get a check for something you think you didn't do! Guess there are still good guys out there. But before you send it back, double check cos you might have forgotten your borrowers were buying out of state and/or title may have issued a check that you were expecting from another agency. It's happened to me a couple of times... but if you don't even recognize the names on the deed and you can account for all the signings around the time the deed was recorded, looks like you gotta send it back. Sorry.
