California Recorders reject or accept a Notary Acknowledgment on a recordable document based on the Venue of the notarization. If the Venue of the Notarization is California, the Acknowledgment and the Jurat must be Compliant. If the Venue is outside the State of California the recorder will accept the out of state non compliant Acknowledgment.
(note) The County Clerk (CA) will not authenticate a Notarys signature on a non compliant Acknowledgment if it was notarized after 1-1-2008.

: Page 43 of the California notary
: handbook quotes section 1189 of
: California's Civil Code as saying
:
: "(b) Any certificate of
: acknowledgment taken in another place
: shall be sufficient in this state if
: it is taken in accordance with the
: laws of the place where the
: acknowledgment is made."

: So if there are indeed recording
: officials running around rejecting out
: of state acknowledgements because they
: don't look enough like California
: acknowledgements, they're doing the
: wrong thing.
