Welps, this series is in the books. This is the final story. Hope you enjoy!
“This place is just amazing, Jus,” Melina smiled as she helped Justine get ready for her wedding.
“Isn’t it,” Justine smiled. “This is where Cody’s parents got married.”
“That’s so romantic,” Mickie said as she fixed her bridesmaid gown. She turned from the full length mirror and helped Maria and Beth with their gowns.
“Cody’s mom made the suggestion when we announced our engagement,” Justine explained. “Cody took me to see it last time we were down here and well…you know the rest if you’re here for my wedding.”
“Cody still hung over from his bachelor party,” Jack asked Ted and Randy as he entered the room designated for them to use.
“I think he’s got a case of cold feet,” Randy frowned.
“He’s been in there for a while,” Ted added. “I think he’s tossin’ his cookies.”
“Code,” Jack called and banged on the bathroom door. “You all right in there? You fall in, buddy?”
The three men exchanged worried glances when there was no response. Jack reached out and tried the knob. It turned easily and he opened the door to reveal an empty room. There was one window in the bathroom. It was small, but someone of Cody’s size could easily squirm his way out of it.
“Guess we’re lucky this church is only two levels high, huh,” Randy chuckled nervously.
Jack grabbed Randy by his lapels. “This isn’t funny, Randy,” he growled. “Go find him.” He shoved the taller man, making him stumble backwards. “Both of you go find him.”
“What are you gonna do,” Ted demanded.
“I need to run interference and make sure my sister doesn’t find out we have a runaway groom,” Jack sighed.
The men went their separate ways and Jack headed toward the bridal side of the church. He could see the door to his sister’s room and had just managed to slap on a happy face when Melina came out. She took one look at her boyfriend and knew something was up.
Making sure the door was closed she crossed the distance between them, placing a hand on his cheek. “Jack? What’s wrong?”
“Wrong? Mel, baby, why would anything be wrong,” he asked, smile still in place. “You look amazing in that gown, by the way. Can’t wait to tear it off of you later.”
“Jack, you’re all fidgety. What’s going on,” Melina demanded, ignoring his comment about tearing her dress off.
Maria came out of the room giggling then. Jack nodded to her as she left and pulled Melina aside so they could talk a little more privately.
“Cody’s missing.”
“WHAT?!”
“Keep it down,” Jack hissed slapping a hand over her mouth.
She peeled it away, looking up at him with wide eyes. “Jack, there’s a church filling up with people for this wedding!”
“I know!”
“Justine is going to be heartbroken,” Melina whimpered.
“Not if I can help it,” Jack replied. “I have Randy and Ted looking for Cody. I was just coming to check on Jus.” He glanced at his watch and groaned. “And we have just under an hour to find him. Distract Justine any way you can. Just keep her occupied. All right?”
Melina nodded. “I’ll do my best.”
“Mel, if you have to fill in a couple of the girls then do it, but just a few,” Jack said before they parted. He gave her a quick kiss and tucked a finger under her chin. “Happy face, Mel. It’s a wedding, remember?”
Melina forced a smile and nodded. She watched him walk off before heading back to Justine and the others. Silently she prayed that Jack and the others would find Cody before Justine got suspicious.
“Paul! Buddy,” Rey called seeing London enter the church.
“Where’s your goofier half,” Batista asked.
“Don’t know. Don’t care,” London shrugged. “I’ve washed my hands of Brian.”
“That’s sad,” Rey frowned.
“Sad? What’s sad is that he talked me into pretending to be strippers for Justine’s bachelorette party. The girls found out and I have bruises and scrapes in places I didn’t think possible!”
Batista let out a loud guffaw, but quieted down when he was met with a death glare from London.
“I’m done talking Brian down from his psychosis induced delusions,” London said ignoring Batista’s outburst. “He wants to commit suicide by going after Jus then so be it. I’m done.”
“That’s a sad commentary on your friendship,” Rey said.
“Yes, it is. Where should I sit?”
“Bride or groom side. Doesn’t matter,” Batista replied. “You’re friends with both.”
“Dave! I’m the usher! I’m supposed to be directing them,” Rey pouted.
Batista rolled his eyes and turned away from his little buddy. It was then that he noticed Randy running around like a chicken with its head chopped off. He excused himself from Rey and London and headed over to the Legend Killer.
“Randy? What’s up?”
Randy stopped what he was doing and debated whether he could trust Batista or not. He finally figured he could and pulled Batista away from the crowd.
“Cody’s gone missing,” he said in a hushed tone.
“CODY’S DONE WHAT,” Batista bellowed, his booming voice carrying through all corners of the church. The guests all turned in their seats to gawk at the two.
“Nothing major everyone,” Randy called, waving them all off. He grabbed Batista’s arm and dragged him away from the crowd. “Nice going, jackass!”
“Randy, you call me a jackass again and I’ll shoot you across the church like f*cking rubber band, understand?” Randy gulped and nodded. “Now, Cody’s gone missing?”
“That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you,” Randy groaned. “We checked on him and the bathroom was empty. He climbed out of the window.”
Just then Dusty Rhodes approached the two. “Fellas, I couldn’t help hearing my son’s name just a few moments ago. Is there something wrong?”
Batista and Randy exchanged worried glances. They didn’t know how to tell “The American Dream” that his son had skipped out on his own wedding.
“Mr. Rhodes,” Randy began, but faltered. He had no idea how to address the issue.
“Dream, it seems that…Cody went for a walk and didn’t tell anyone where he was going,” Batista finally said. “He probably went to see if he could sneak in with Justine. You know how those two are. They were acting like newlyweds before today.”
Dusty looked at the two and shook his head. “Boys, are you tellin’ me that my son is MIA?”
“Yes, sir, we are,” Randy said, hanging his head. He then went on to explain how it had happened.
“Well, this is a pickle,” Dusty said. “Justine doesn’t know?”
“No, sir,” Randy replied. “Jack doesn’t want her to know. Ted and Jack are looking for Cody now.”
“Boys, I think I may know where he is. Keep looking. I’ll let you know if I find him.”
“What if Mrs. Rhodes finds out,” Randy asked.
“She won’t,” Dusty smiled. “Michelle is in with the bride.”
Randy breathed a sigh of relief and the three parted ways to look for the missing groom.
“I really appreciate you checking on me, Michelle,” Justine said as her future mother-in-law helped her with her make up. Mickie was working on her hair. “What are the two of you whispering about?”
Melina had returned looking worried though she had a smile on her face. She had made a beeline for Beth and the two had been speaking in hushed tones for a while now. Justine was beginning to worry that something was wrong.
“Nothing,” Melina said and went back to talking to Beth.
“Do we get to know the secret or are we supposed to be left in the dark,” Mickie chuckled.
“It’s nothing really,” Melina said with a nervous chuckle.
“Now, Mel, don’t lie to the girl,” Beth said. “We’re just worried that there’s not enough time to get you ready for the wedding. I mean the invitation says five, but there’s just still so much to do.”
“My hair is being done,” Justine replied with a smile. “My make up is almost done. All I have to do is put on my dress and I’ll be done. We have plenty of time.”
Beth nudged Melina. “Really? Is that…” She squinted her eyes as she gazed at Justine. “Is that a zit?”
Justine gasped. “Where?” She pulled away from Mickie and her bun of curls collapsed.
“Oh no! Jus!”
“Where’s the zit,” Justine asked. “I need a mirror.” She jumped up and rushed into the bathroom. Mickie and Mrs. Rhodes close behind her.
