Posted by Dick Conklin, class of '59 My brother, Bob, was supposed to be on the 87th floor of the second tower hit for a 9:15 am meeting. He had just gotten off the subway at 9 am, after the first building was hit. He didn't know anything about it, but the doors to his building were shut and he couldn't get in. He tried to get into the other building, but couldn't. He and another co-worker walked the subway platform and came up onto a street a block away. When they came up into the street there was an airplane engine sitting there. He was very lucky that his meeting wasn't scheduled earlier. There were 200 people in that office and 40 are missing. We didn't even know that Bob was down there, because his office is in Albany and he goes to NY only for meetings, maybe once a week. It was two days before we even knew he was down there, and were we surprised!

Bob Pilatzke, a GCHS grad (not sure which year) narrowly escaped the WTC attacks. He works for the NYS Taxation and Finance Department. Here's part of a note I received from his sister Carol (Pilatzke) Lorch, class of '61:
