I can't help wondering whether he didn't do the comedic films because they weren't offered or because he didn't want them. I recall his comment about Dean Spanley in the interview he did alongside Bryan Brown about that film not having the bells and whistles saying, "This is a comedy, folks," but existing, rahter, on a nuance of tone. Maybe that's what he prefers. On the other hand, maybe there just wasn't a place for him in Richard Curtis Rep, given Hugh Grant's mastery of the genre. I admit to picturing JN as the hero when I read the most recent Bridget Jones book, but then Helen Fielding clearly indicated Daniel Craig as her model. I don't think that book will ever make it to the screen, but I wouldn't mind seeing Jeremy in it, if it does.
