Jules: I believe you're right. I remember director John Amiel saying in his DVD commentary that the casting director first suggested JN and Toby Jones for the roles the other ended up playing. Amiel decided it would work better if JN played Rev. Innes and TJ played Thomas Huxley, giving as a reason Jeremy's good looks and natural charisma onscreen to make Innes a more sympathetic character.
