Question about cleaning ears on ferrets?

What is the best way to clean your ferrets ears? In the past, I have used a qtip and ferret ear cleaning solution, but I have heard of solutions that you just squirt in their ear and let them shake it out. How well does this work? I really hate using the qtip method because my ferret cant stand it.
