Nathan the first thing you would need to learn is welding, tig welding in particular. Become a very skilled welder the find a job in a Fab shop somewhere working under a skilled fabricator. Being a welder even a great welder doesnt make you a great Fabricator. Learning how metal reacts to heat from welding and how to build an assembly that ends up the way you planned takes skill and practice! We have had many years practice in building chassis and the product we build now is the best we have ever built but it came from learning by expirence! Stay focused dont give up and it will pay off for you!
