Whilst browsing through the search results of google I came across one of you links "http://fryedsoft.calc.org/rants/trolls.htm"
I was half expecting a decent arguement about the "excessive trolling". IMO most comments and replies are in relation to the news article posted and/or specific user comments that involve the article at hand. This may include comments on programmers mentioned in an article, recent events in relation to a program or user or even a simple compliment. It's quite possible that the rate of hits from different IPs went up at ticalc.org meaning that more and more members are becoming involved in interacting with the site. I'm surprised that there aren't thousands of comments on news articles if you look at the amount of user accounts ticalc.org has.
