It is sad to report that two experienced glider pilots were killed on Monday 29 June. They both were competing in soaring contests, one was flying an 18m ASG29T at Ephrata, and the other an 18m Ventus 2CxT at Parowan. While its too early to talk about accident causation, in both cases there appears to be some stall/spin behavior in the chain of events.
Stall/spin accidents are a known problem and there is no excuse for not practicing them and/or taking spin recovery training. If you have not spun a glider recently contact a FLSC instructor for some spin refresher practice in the Blanik. I will be happy to participate if requested.
