The latest maps show:
Tuesday clearly the pick day of the week or weekend. The PBL is well-mixed and primed from Sunday and yesterday, and drier. Worst case: blue thermals this afternoon to 5K, 5 hr. flight possible. Best case: fair weather cumulus field developing with bases at least 6K, extending all over western NY except near the lakes, Gold triangle chance. For tomorrow, it now appears the rain should hold off till evening or very late afternoon, but....The wind profile will feature warm advection at the surface and aloft, effectively killing usable thermals. Only hope, as stated yesterday, is a gaggle on the point, which should be working at the 1200' AGL level.
Wetness can be fun, but not for soaring, and the rest of the week and weekend is basically shot, probably no soaring till the middle of next week. I wish someone would check me out on the winch, I would be happy to launch you guys today. Since my repeated efforts over the last three years to do that have failed, I'll start working the phones for a tug today. So far we have me, Jack, and Doug, and can probably get others (my brother?). At this late point in time, I will not rely on or send any emails, some servers take hours to respond, too long. If we decide to go (or not) I will post here ASAP. Please stay tuned.
