Yesterday was an idyllic late spring day, blue sky and puffy cumuli. Actually a bit too puffy since dewpoints in the first 10K feet were on the high side and a few modest cumulus castellani were about. Nonetheless a good time was had by all. Instruction, especially of juniors, marched forward thanks to the indefatigable Jim Rizzo. Jack made a valiant attempt in the 1-26 towards the Bronze Badge 2 hour requirement, and the glass ships went out to play. Tom scooted north in his Jantar to my home town of East Bethany. I thought about that, but didn't have the cojones to go past Letchworth Gorge in the Grob (accompanied part way by my brother CZ), as I had no crew. At one point, thermaling at 4k, I got scared out of my wits by what I thought was a Waco or some such about to hit me, only to realize it was the sound of the Allisons roaring below at the tractor pull. I landed after about 3.4 hours at 5:20, thanks to the generosity of Rick Roman who could have called me down, and could have stayed up longer, had I not misjudged a cloud due to a "gymnastic plumbing" exercise (I was wearing a shute too!). Doug charged off to Corning, then got shot down at Painted Post on the way back, and had to be fetched by Tom. As he put it "Everything quit", which can happen to the best of us.
Well I really hope those stupid meteorologists are wrong about the long-range forecast because this weekend is looking crummy. Ergo, if anyone is interested, tomorrow looks to be another good day, so if people are interested, let's try. I really have way too much work to do, but what the hell, life is short.
