It turned out to be a better day than predicted. I took off at about 1:30 PM, Rick Lafford towed me to the point and put me in immediate lift that took me up to 7000' MSL. I tooled around Cohocton for about half an hour, looking for the Perkinsville Wave reported by Doug Bradly. I didn't find the Wave but had a good look at the Wind Farm at Cohocton. Wow, those turbines are big. I counted 22 with 5 of them having the propellers attached. What a sight!
I took a trip up to Hemlock Lake to look for Steve Kronquest who was supposed to be kayaking there. I saw a few boats but its hard to recognize anyone from 7,000 feet.
Jari Wallach reported in from north of Hornell at 10,000 feet. I went in search of good lift and ended up south of Hornell at 6000 feet but nothing to brag about. I started back north over Hornell and hit a booomer just east of Canaseraga. That thermal took me up to 11,300 feet. Not quite good enough for a Gold Atitude. I needed another 1000 feet for that. Still a really good day for Upstate New York. A nice way to start the season.
