Riz is right, September and October can be great soaring especially when the leaves turn color. We have the best seat in the house for "leaf peeping".
On Sunday, I tried to make it up to LeRoy to fly over my house. Lift was great when I started in Dansville. Doug Bradley dropped me in a great thermal an I was up to 5,000 by the time he landed. I was at cloudbase at 6,000 feet and didn't ahve to turn until I hit Geneseo. I made it to Nevin at 4500 MSL where it was over developed going north. I could have made it to LeRoy but getting back would have been a problem. I knew if I landed at LeRoy that I would sit there for quite a while before I would be towed back. I'd rather be flying so I went back down to Dansville and on to Hornell where the it booming up to 7,000 MSL. Jim Coates and I shared a thermal for while and I got cold feet up there, literally, and came down after 2 1/2 hrs.
: Sunday proved to be an excellent soaring day,
: and lasted until 5:30 pm! I thought that it
: was over at Penn Yann at 4 PM, but 6 -10 kt
: thermals still peppered the sky all theway
: home, notably at Hemlock Lake and at
: Wayland!
:
: I know Jari went to East Aurora,
: Hammondsport and Penn Yann, and called
: himself an amateur! Well I want to be an
: amateur then! Got home at 10 PM!
:
: Jari, tell us your story!!! JR
