Tom Roberts, Doug Bradley Jon Vanderhoof (towing) and yours truly had the airport and the sky to themselves on Saturday, in 25 degree weather that was truly awe inspiring. There was clear air, cloud streets, a 15-25 kt wind from the north west (aloft) and W NW on the ground, that produced not only orographic wonders to 3900 msl but strong thermals as well. "Jingle bells" and "White Christmas" could be heard when the tow plane entered flurries from the best scenes in Bing Crosby's repertoire.
I was sorry I did not distribute my hand warmers because eveyone's toes forced them to land after about 1&1/2 hours of the most memorable flight in well, 30 days, anyway. Winter Soaring is here! Rejoice! Now all we have to do is get a plow for the tractor (I have a bead on one now) and a Woods belly mower! For new years we will plow the snow and cut the grass. Who's In? JR
