Dear Dottie, I want to say that I am a big fan of yours and thank you for all the things you have
done for CF. You are very pretty and have been a great roll model for transplant patients everywhere. I have had cystic fibrosis since I was born on July 25th 1979. The doctors told my parents that I would only live a few years since not much was known about CF in 79. My parents fought hard to keep me alive and healthy. I did well for a few years and at the age of 13, I had a double lung transplant that saved my life in August of 1992. I was one of the first successful kids ever transplanted at the University on North Carolina. The doctors gave me a year to live after the surgery. Now ,Nov. 03, 11 years later I am still alive. The doctors call me Superman because I have lived for so long and beaten the odds. I am now 24 and the manager of a restaurant in Florida. I am not fighting dibetes and osteoperosis along with the CF. When I turn 25 in July, I will lose my medical insurance. I cannot afford the $30k a month it will cost to get my medications and doctor appointments. The CF, working everyday, and the 150 pills a day I take are starting to take a toll on my body, but I am not giving up. I have written a book telling my inspirational story. I have been turned down by 75 publishers that wont even read it. They say it is not their kind of book, but they will not tell me where to go. The book talks about how I am able to cope with being sick my entire life, keep up good spirits, and how many people take being healthy for granted. I am trying to get it published so I can make enough money to pay for the meds and doctor visits. I have come too far to give up hope now. I deserve a chance to live just like everyone else. I am scared I will not have enough money to live now. My dream is to marry my girlfriend and not have to worry about money just to stay alive. I dont know what to do so I am asking for your help to get my book published or give me advice. God Bless you and the people that you touch everyday. Coby Gent
