HeyGarry, so you're new in area. I've fished the whole region for over 30 years, and fish all 12 months.I'm. happy to share some secrets at the risk of keeping them secret. For instance, over the last few weeks I've taken upwards of 30 pike right in St. Catharines, without getting my boat wet. The largest was 41 inches; est.18 lbs., maybe a little more. Virtually all have been roe laden females feeding heavily. I guess I have a knack for success due to a lifetime of fishing the area when I can't get away. In this particular pike area I've also taken Musky and even a few walleye, caught incidentally. I know where crappies are in the spring, bass in summer & fall, Lake trout up to 20 lbs in Sept., and steelhead all year. Carp over 45 lbs. are easy in May & June, jumbo perch for 8 or 9 months, and much more. I'd be happy to share some of this, if only a little more privately. I hope you can respect my reluctance to divulge too much right here, as I will explain. A few years ago I was trying to share info. with a virtual stranger from New York state about a location for perch thru the ice. I had been having success for some time, with very little public knowledge of it. Maybe I'm selfish, but I put in the time & effort to discover these things.About 2 weeks after sharing the perch info., I could barely get a seat there. The guy must have had some kind of luck, as he posted the place on the net.To add insult to this, I would sometimes fish the area hard, many times coming up empty due to experimenting new techniques, equipment, etc., only having to listen to some advice from others who may have taken pity. Often the advice would be a distorted or watered-down version of the info. I shared initially. Go figure. Hence, my reluctance. Lesson learned. My point, Garry, is that I'm only too happy to help a guy or two, if and when I know he's a serious and conservation-minded individual. Don't get me wrong, I don't pretend to be an expert or guru; I only wish to help someone who can respect my lifetime of learning & discovery. A friend or two know of my recent pike success, and that I have released all but one due to injury. In my view, a 4 pounder properly cleaned & cooked is as least as good or even better than walleye. Better still, my secret is safe, if only for now. E-mail me anytime, we may compare notes. I love to learn, and to spend time with others of a like mind. I'm 46, and just last summer I learned 2 new knots, from a 12 year old girl! That is what it's all about. Later; until then, tight lines. Kevin. P.S., everything I've pointed out re: local area, does not require a boat!
