Spinning V's Casting

Could someone please explain to me the differance between spinning and casting styles. I am new to fishing ans although they both seem to be the same thing, there seems to be a differance between them. Is this just in the rod and reel design and can both stles be carried out with either type of rod and reels set up?
Help please.
