Fish can suffer long-term, sub-lethal effects, such as reduced rates of reproduction, loss of stamina, difficult respiration, and altered feeding habits when in contact with petroleum products. Fish absorb petro that is dissolved in water though their gills, accumulating it within the liver, stomach, gall bladder and muscle tissue.
