Maybe there are some other boats that you should practice with WRT building. Cost is relative, zero cost has no value in except in the value that You get out of it IE: building to exact tolerances and learning how 10% of boats material cost is in sandpaper...(OK Mona, shipping costs is NOT included LOL!!)
Another thing is realistic expectations, it's a big project and unless you have discipline and no other commitments like wife and fam or gf, school etc, you are looking for a "spare" 26hrs a week for 2 years "if" all goes well.
It's a big project, start on a cookie cutter kit boat to learn e-poxy, use of blades, cheapest source of sandpaper and so on, this is aside from the time management issues.
