We "harvested" a 470 which had been beaten on the beach during a storm. Even Mark Cummings or Dean Greentree couldn't recycle this one. The boom and pole are too short, but she had a Proctor Epsilon mast which is just a bit longer than the Fireball mast. The gooseneck was in the right place, the shrouds are a bit short, but I think I can make it work. There were good fittings available and we used a few of them on our recent project "Spraymaker." We have a donated Proctor D on "Spraymaker" (donated by Grant Lamont) and that would be the best mast if you can find a derelict Fireball somewhere in the prairies.
Greg Desilets in Portland has a project underway which can be viewed in the Fireball section of the vlsa.org website. He has good information and it would be useful to confer with Greg or me. Dave White has also recently built good modern wide Fireballs.
