Take a look at this website:

The halyard and bungee don't actually connect to each other.
Before you go this route, I'd recommend that you source a Northfix Pump Cleat. There is a good chance that you will have to order one from the UK.
If you can't get one, I'd recommend going with a simple system with no take-up or a reverse purchase.
