Spinnaker halyard: how to I attach the bungee cord?

This spring I hope to set up the spinnaker on my old woodie. I have the sail, a double-ended pole, but no other fittings.

I have reviewed the Draycote site, which I find confusing. I have access to experts in the local club, fortunately. But I have one question while the snow is still on the ground.

How does one attach the halyard to the bungee take-up cord depicted on the various web sites? I'm guessing a big knot would NOT go through the various blocks, so it must be some sort of splice.

Can anyone give me some advice?
