Hello,
Any help appreciated on all below. I promise not ask for a lot of help that invloves any exhausting correspondance. Looking for a nudge into the right direction.
I’ve bought an old wood Fireball that needs to be re-skinned due to neglect (outdoor storage) by previous owner.
Question 1: Is there a written reference or someone I can speak to about an orderly process of replacing the laminated center board console, all hull skins and the bulkheads at the front rear and rear of the cockpit. As well as the bow and stern? If I’m lucky, I might be able to keep the internal frames / stringers. This would have to be VERY deliberate, I guess, to remove/replace parts in a manner that maintains hull shape and rigidity during the process. Once I rip into the hull, I’ll assess health of internals.
Question 2: If nothing exists in response to question 1, must I buy a full set of plans? Is there some kind of re-issue plan for existing hulls I can get faster / cheaper, given that I own a hull already.? My thoughts are that If I do a rebuild, I want to act NOW while it’s warm enough for epoxy to kick off.
question 3: is there another forum I should sign up for?
Sails, with both spins, spars, center board, and rudder are good. Came on a trailer, too.
According to some engravings and printing on the cloth rudder cover, looks to have been a Miami, FL boat that was used by a U.S. Navy Officers Training Corp (NROTC) program. As I gather, a professor bought it and took it to Ohio, near lake Acton, in the Dayton OH area.
Have not found a hull number yet.
