My advise would be not to try and use part of one system and part of another. If you have a single ended pole set up on your mast and pole then use the retracting system that a single pole sysytem uses and learn how to use it. Otherwise go to the double ended sysytem and fit the boom with the storage rings which can be anything from PVC pipe thats been cut and secured onto the boom or covered cable that will stay in a hoop. Personally I like the single ended sysyem that has the one end of the pole attached to the front of the spinnaker pole and other end attach to a swivel pulley that rides along a shock cord that attaches to the boom near the back and wraps around the mast and attaches to the other side again near the back of the boom. When the crew goes to set the pole the end of the pole just rides up to the bail on the mast and when the crew goes to take it down they just push it off the ploe off the bail and it automatically rides back into storage on the boom without the crew trying to hit those loops while dosing the sail. I think it is faster in raising and lowing the spinnaker. Of course others may have a different viewpoint and maybe this is a good topic to share with each other. Any other opinions?

: I'm fitting out an older (!) fireball
: with a spinnaker, and have a mast
: with the topping lift entry set for
: a single-ended pole. That's fine,
: considering I won't be racing it
: anytime soon, and won't be gybing it
: much either, for that matter.
:
: Two questions:
:
: 1.) Can I use hoops on the boom
: equally well to store a single ended
: pole as for a double ended pole when
: not in use? If yes, then
:
: 2.) Where can I find the hoops, or
: what do people use for these. It
: looks like insulated cable from the
: pictures I can find.
:
: By the way, US6735 (I think that's
: right, but what the heck - if you're
: a 14xxx you really don't care!) will
: be ready for sailing next spring
: thanks to the patient and expert
: advice Dave White provided over two
: years ago.
