Hey Dave/Pete,
I am still in posession of the mould here on Vancouver Island, however, it is in need of some TLC in order to be used for full production. Since I am just the caretaker, I wouldn't be able to commit to renting/loaning out the mould for others to build their own boat. If the interest is there, I can contact the owner and see if he is willing to do this. As stated earlier, since I am on the West Coast, and in Canada, I am not sure about shipping/customs/etc. to get the mould across the border/country.
I am currently working on an epoxy-infused laminate for the hull, producing a very strong and stiff laminate. I am hoping to have everything finalized and have a sample part done by the end of February.
All for now. Dean.

: Hi Pete,
:
: My e-mail address is
: whiteclda@yahoo.com which will get
: me at home. My il at school is
: dwhite@jmsd.org Concerning the
: glass boat issue we were discussing
: there is a guy near Vancouver named
: Dean Greentree who is working with a
: glass mold that seems promising but
: I don't think he is going to rent it
: out especially across the country.
: There is also a mold that the
: Canadians use referred to as the
: Blanco mold that has been used
: successfully in building wooden
: hulls and it is located on the east
: coast somewhere. I think getting a
: hold of Steph up in Canada could
: help determine here the mold is
: located. Another possibility is to
: contact Lifestyle boats, again in
: Canada and they have or had a mold
: which was used to produce fiberglass
: shells which guys like Phil Locker
: used to make his composite hull. I
: think the warning that Pat is making
: in his e-mail refers to the mold we
: outline and used at the school here.
: It is a male mold and if you are a
: skilled woodworker a shell can be
: made with little problems but as it
: is a male mold you can add material
: and then have to remove excess to
: make the boat measure in. We
: suggest that if you go that way to
: make sure that any measurement point
: you push to create a wide bow is
: only pushed by 5 mm and not push it
: to the max which other builders have
: done with less then great results.

: Hi Dave, I have a new computer and I
: lost your email address in the
: transistion. We had a meeting
: tonight and the dates of July 19-20
: for the Fireball Eastern Regionals
: is good to go with. Plus thanks for
: the information regarding the molds,
: or lack there of. For some reason I
: thought there was 1 mold available
: somewhere on the east coast.

: Hi Pete,
:
: Two things, first is the dates of
: July 19-20 a confirmed date for the
: Eastern Regionals at Sayville. I
: hope they are as that is a good
: weekend for all concerned. Second,
: there is no fiberglass mold
: available in the US for what you are
: asking. We have the numbers and an
: outline of how to build a wide bow
: from wood which I can supply but if
: you are talking about making a glass
: boat you would have to first make a
: wooden hull then use that to pull a
: glass mold from. It would not be
: worth it for one or two boats.
: During my conversations with the
: Winder Boat company they suggested
: that we begin to make foam sandwich
: hull by using the mold we use to
: make a wooden hull but reduce the
: sizes of the hull section patterns
: and build the hull from the foam
: board used in glass construtuon.
: then glass over the foam. Then
: remove the shell and glass the
: inside of the foam then build wooden
: centerboard case and tanksides and
: insert to make a composite hull.
: They said this is the way they began
: to make glass hulls before they
: tooled up an entire mold for a glass
: boat. That's about all we can
: suggest at this time. Let me know
: about those dates as soon as
: possible as I have already told some
: people that those dates were ok and
: if I have to I will make adjustments
: and corrections. Talk to you later.

: Hi Dave,
: It's Pete from Long Island. I have
: access to a shop that use to make
: fiberglass boats and the owner is
: considering a project or 2 in
: fiberglass or kevlar. Actually, I
: have my boat there now and I will be
: re-doing the bottom of it since it
: is too thin as we discoved during
: the nationals.

: Where are you located and what type
: of
: boat, wood or are you going to try
: to build one from glass. Will help
: with whatever we can do
:
: --Previous Message--
: Does anyone know if there is a Wide
: Bow mold in the US that can be
: borrowed/rented/leased for the
: possible build of 1 or 2 boats?
