Posted by Bizzy my boat is a 1969 glass boat by chipendale with and Ian Proctor metal masts spar and boom. I have modern adjustable spreaders (proctor) on it now. problem happens going to windward With crew flat out on the trapeze and main sheeted in and jib sheeted to a point just past luffing or even tighter (fairleads up or down, in or out) it feels like we are dragging an anchor and the jib is vibrating really fast and we can't really point. It didn't do this always and I dont' know if I scewed something up at some point of if we've worn out our worn out sails. I tried tightening up the lashings on the jib tack and this didn't help I tried more rig tension and this also didn't help. I'm going to look at spreader settings again and I might lengthen them and add still more tension I think I'm generally a bit low. Related is my mast rake. To get the standard rake on the mast it looks kind of funny. The mast sits way back in the gate, but the measurement from the top black band to the transom is 22'8" is my mast just not bending enough or should it look like it is leaning way back at that setting? should it be roughly parallel to the forward bulkhead or what should be the difference between the measurement between the mast and bulkhead near the tang and a similar measurement at deck level? Any help, direction or starting place or process guidance would be very much appreciated I have several tuning guides, I'm looking for something more. Thanks,

Looking for some tuning advice. I have old sails (see previous message) I'm wanting to make them work while in the process of obtaining better ones. I'm having problems making the jib work right and I have a complicated list of things to try, but I thought I would see if anyone could simplify that process of error and trial.
