Should we require passwords?

The spam on this board is getting out of hand. I can turn on password protection for the message board (which means that each person who wants to post must first create a login id and password for themselves). That should cut down a long way on the automated spam postings, but may also turn away a few casual posters / people new to the class asking questions. What do you think? Phil
