Trailering: What is the easiest or most elegant way to transport the boom?

By "elegant", I mean in engineer's terms - simplest, least complex and most effective. I borrowed my son's Dodge 3500 truc last weekend. Huge pick-up, but the boom still stuck out the end of the box, a bit sideways. With my Dodge Dakota short-box, the boom will stick out even more - and would rub on the metal side of the box. Is there a neat way to carry it parallel to the mast somehow? My mast rides on two pipes that stick up, one at each end of the trailer, with a U-shaped cradle for the mast at the top of each. Has anyone come up with some sort of double cradle, for mast AND boom? Thanks again. John
