Baby thrown out of nest

My grandma gave me a baby finch that was thrown out of the nest as she did not have time to feed it. I have been feeding him/her for two days. It is strong and eats well. I do not have a heat lamp and the baby seems to keep his own heat in. My question is when he eats he seems to get air in his food pouches. Is this bad? How long do I have to feed him and when do I start to try regular feed for him? I have never done this before and I hope to be successful at it. Please help if you can.
